With a new year around the corner, we’re all looking for ways to better ourselves. Donating to charity is a great way to help the less fortunate and give back during this holiday season. Here are a few great organizations to donate to:

1. Doctors without Borders

This charity is dedicated to providing medical care to needy people in over 60 countries. This non-profit organization depends on volunteer doctors, nurses, and donations in order to continue providing medical assistance to those in need. They respond to immediate crises such as natural disasters, war, and outbreaks. They also work in areas by providing long-term healthcare to those who wouldn’t have it otherwise and help communities manage health crises. They are currently providing aid in Aleppo, Syria where thousands of civilians are under attack by the Syrian government due to the ongoing civil war. Just last month, the organization lost one of their hospitals in the area to an air strike which resulted in the deaths of 20 patients and doctors.

2. Oxfam International

This organization works to provide clean water, toilets, and other necessities to people living in poverty. They also provide medical aid, legal advice, and education to those who need it. They are currently providing aid in rural areas in over 90 countries, low income neighborhoods, and refugee camps.

3. Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood provides a multitude of reproductive services to people across the nation. These services include cancer screenings, STD tests and treatment, birth control, and abortion services. Contrary to public belief, only 3% of the organization’s services are abortion and for many people across the nation, these centers are their only source of reproductive health care. Planned parenthood is in grave danger of being defunded by the new presidential administration. Now more than ever, it is extremely important that we help them keep their doors open.

4. Save the Children

This organization is committed to providing children living in poverty with clothes, shelter, clean water, education, and medical care. They are currently active in over 120 countries and work to help children in immediate crises and through long term situations. The best way to help out is to sponsor a child if you have a little extra to spare every month.

These are just a few organizations to keep in mind when looking to make a donation, but there are plenty of other great charities out there with different goals. Find the one that strikes your chord and give to your heart’s content.
