Before we begin our expectations for this year, I would first like to sum up how many of you may (or may not) have felt about 2016. There have been many ups and downs this past year, with that being said, I am looking forward to this year. Everyone says that this year will be their year, but making it a great year is completely up to the individual and their commitments.

“This year is going to be the year I get…my best body…the best grades…a new skill,” you name it and I am sure someone has said it. However, improvement takes work. Things do not just get better over night, you need to consistently work towards making them better. One way to help make 2017 your year is by having a great support system by surrounding yourself by people you trust and who will help motivate you.

Additionally, there are five rules to follow in order to achieve your goals:

  1. Set goals that really motivate you.
  2. Set SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, Time Bound.
  3. Write down your goals in places where you will be constantly reminded.
  4. Create a detailed plan to reach your goals.
  5. Stick with it!

There can be all sorts of expectations for this year, but at the end of the day those expectations will not get you anywhere. You make the year whatever you want it to be. If you want it to be a good and productive year, then you try your best to make it that. You can do it! The most challenging part is not starting your goal, but continuing to work towards it. No matter how challenging it may get, you are capable of achieving your goals and meeting those expectations.
