It’s that time of the semester! There is only a week left in the semester and we’re all stressing about finals. I want to share with you a few methods on how to de-stress during the last week of the semester.

First, don’t forget to eat! Yes, you may not want to eat, but, if you don’t feed your brain, then how are you supposed to digest and remember tons of information. Also, the types of food you’re eating is important so remember to eat plenty of fruits, veggies, nuts, and lean meats (if you are a vegetarian, the last part doesn’t apply to you). Additionally, remember to drink plenty of water so you remain hydrated during your finals. This combination will help you have a lot more energy so you can study and ace those finals.

Second, a great method of de-stressing is exercise! If you don’t have a workout plan, you can simply go out for a walk.  Maybe around Lake Yosemite or other hiking trails around Merced. Remember those New Year’s resolutions, because now may be a great time to start working out towards them again. So yes, begin your workout plan. Also, there are activities you can do with friends and they have no cost to them. You’ll be reaping the benefits, such as the release of Endorphins which help reduce stress and anxiety. Thus, you will be able to relax and better manage your stress.

Walk of De-stress

This advice is a bit unconventional, but I’ve tried it and it really works. Third, if you know the time of day that you’ll be taking your final, a few days before go to the classroom and at that time of day just practice taking your final, because getting acquainted with the room and time of day will help you know the potential ambience during your final (if possible). This prepares your body for the sights, sounds, and feelings, so you can better focus on the task at hand.

Fourth, I do this before EVERY test and so far, it’s been one of the pieces of advice I value the most, because of its practicality and how truly useful it has been for me. 20 minutes before a test is scheduled to begin, I walk around campus and do deep-breathing exercises. Usually, I arrive right before the test so I do between 15 and 20 minutes of this. It helps you relax and supplies plenty of oxygen to your brain. You should try It!

Finally, don’t forget to get a good night’s sleep and study for your finals too! Best of luck!
