Nikolai Noroña here, Editor-in-Chief of The Prodigy News. You might remember me from a slew of Facebook posts on the classifieds towards the end of last semester. Anyway, we’re still here and we’re still barging forward with our mission. In this article, I’ll be updating you on what we’ve accomplished so far, as well as laying out our goals for the future.
First, I’m proud to say that our staff has grown significantly since our small recruitment drive at the end of the last semester, but we don’t want to stop there. If you don’t read anything else, know that we are still looking for writers, photographers, editors, and other content creators to assist us. If you’re interested, e-mail us at email@example.com, or message us on Facebook.
As we approach the beginning of the next semester, our first attempt at producing regularly scheduled content will begin. Although we’ve grown, our staff is still relatively small, so don’t expect daily updates, but we do hope to put out several articles per week, at a minimum. Eventually, we’d like to be putting out several articles per day, but we’ll see what the future brings. We’ll also be using analytics and surveys to figure out exactly what UC Merced readers want, and attempting to cater to their needs and desires.
We’d like to do more than just report the news as well. Although the Classifieds is currently probably the best way to address the entire student body, that really isn’t an optimal scenario in our minds. We don’t aim to replace the ease of use and quick sharing on Facebook, but instead to provide a platform for students to voice their opinions on important topics, and share messages with a lasting impact.
We’d like to do a lot of things, but of course, it’s going to take and dedication to accomplish them all. As I said earlier, we are still open to accepting new help, and anyone who joins in the coming academic year will be considered a founding member of the new Prodigy organization. We fully believe that we are capable of realizing all of the goals described above, and more that we will describe in the coming academic year.
Stay tuned Bobcats, and never forget to stay informed!
