Newest addition to the MCU, Doctor Strange, comes to theaters on Nov. 4th. He brings magic and mind bending abilities. But who is this strange man? Let us find out!
Doctor Strange formerly known as, Dr. Stephen Vincent Strange, is the magician and mystic of the Avengers team. So far from what we have seen in the trailers, we know that he is a top-notch surgeon, but something tragic happens leading him to to travel to Tibet. Soon, he heals faster than expected and with new knowledge at hand. To him, it was something strange he wanted to know more about.
Played by BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) actor Benedict Cumberbatch, the character is bound to have the actor’s signature style: cold, calculating, and methodical.
From what is seen in the trailer, it is safe to say that there would be mind-melting settings, with warping scenery similar to Inception’s folding buildings. Effects and makeup look up-to-MCU standard, especially with the excellent blend with effects to create a mind-boggling world while keeping it true to the comic’s balance with action and storytelling.
Canonically, Doctor Strange is part of the Avengers, the Illuminati, and a few other well-known groups. Strange has a variety of inspirations to his character, mainly revolving around the use of magic and mysticism. During his time in Tibet, he encounters An Ancient One who heals and then, teaches Strange the ways of mystical and martial arts.
Strange Tales #110 back in July 1963. Fans have appreciated the character for the surrealistic and psychedelic style portrayed throughout his issues. Because of this, there was an issue for a recall due to drug association, reflecting the hippie counterculture of the time.
Strange may be new to the fans of the MCU, but he has been a long time favorite of the dedicated comic fans. Will the movie be able to bridge the gap between both fandoms? Only time will tell and decide how the movie goes when it releases in theaters on Friday, Nov. 4th.
