Last spring Matchbox Magazine released their ninth issue, Matchbox IX. Matchbox is a magazine that includes published prose, poetry, photography and art. The magazine is a UC-wide creative writing project that publishes the creative works of UC students at no cost. Matchbox sends about 50 issues of their magazine to the literature departments at each UC campus every year.
This year’s issue delivers fresh, artistic perspectives of UC students. The book includes stories that range from love to drugs, and from inner strength to life. The original photography and art pieces possess intricate details that captivate the reader’s imagination. Each submission has an amazing story of its own and will entice one’s attention into the delicate world of that piece. There is an infinite amount of profoundness to this issue which makes it difficult to put down.
Matchbox Magazine IX is definitely a book worth raving about because many of the pieces are very relatable and entertaining to read. The pathos in many of the works will truly evoke raw thought and emotion within the reader. This issue is the window to the heart and soul of the UC community. I highly encourage UC Merced students to display their artistic talent by submitting to Matchbox Magazine.
If you are interested in publishing prose, poetry, art and/or audio in next year’s issue please contact firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on submission guidelines. Or visit their Facebook page Matchbox Literary Magazine.
